Series of Art Workshops sponsored by P&SFCU ~ Printing with a line

When does a printed line become a tool for thinking?
Series of workshop based on C. W. Topal Program. Line printing is a process for creating lines that makes use of a simple printmaking technique. Using the line printing tool, children have control over their marks and often find that they are able to print structures before they can draw them. A line becomes a tool for thinking when it is used to discover the beginning of writing, reading, mathematics and design.

Projects will encourage and lead children to:
Explore: Spatial relationship, the beginnings of literacy, geometrical thinking, the mathematics of design
Construct: shapes and buildings, letters, names and words, the alphabet, patterns and radial design
Develop: understanding of line as a basic, element of design
Creative and critical thinking skills: experience with materials

Children discover that they can construct a variety of lines and shapes and combine them to create complex structures such as letters, buildings, machines and vehicles. Identifying and following vertical, horizontal, diagonal and other kinds of lines helps children to see and understand how shapes, letters, patterns, and buildings are constructed – and helps them to form their own constructions.
