Art Materials:

  • ruler
  • eraser
  • markers or crayons
  • black sharpie or other black marker
  • 8.5 x 11 paper

Drawing with Bobbi Egan:  I will show how to make a grid to transfer lines to paper, draw the horse with basic shapes, create the outlines, erase the pencil lines, then color in the white areas using warm and cool color combinations. I think younger kids will like the project although I don’t expect them to draw past their level…they will get tips on using color and making shapes to make an animal that is universally used as a symbol in art sculpture, photographs, etc. I will be using an image I downloaded over the internet that is a copyrighted photo and talk about the difference between using an image for reference and copying exactly what has been done already.

Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down to Zentangle art. You can most easily create Zentangle art by rotating your page as you tangle – always keeping your hand in a relaxed position. You don’t need to know what a tangle is going to look like to draw it. You just need to know the steps. The result is a delightful surprise.  —zentangle.com
