Discovering Putnam County
VIRTUAL (ZOOM) art workshop: Saturday, October 28th at 1 p.m. (sponsored by Brewster Public Library) Register: 845-279-6421
LUNA MOTH and PERSIMMON MOONS
Materials:
Paper, paint (tempera, watercolor, or acrylic), colored pencils, chalk or white colored pencil
Description:
In this workshop, we will illustrate a Luna moth, alongside one of its caterpillar’s favored trees: The persimmon. The Luna moth in its imago (adult) form is active at night, so we will create a night scene using a layered paint and colored pencil approach.
Discovering Putnam County. Brewster Public Library.
Leave your home and look around – nature is right next to us. You can hear frogs in the lake, something rustles in the bushes, birds fly in the sky, sometimes there is a multitude of stars in the sky and sometimes there are none at all, the seasons change. During our art workshops, we will get to know and illustrate many questions about the surrounding world of nature. All of this we will illustrate with drawings, collages, and paintings.
In a consecutive series of art workshops, children and their families will learn the art elements (line, shape, color, value, texture, and shape), which are part of every painting along with the study of nature.
Call 845-279-6421 to sign in, or just come and join us at Brewster Public Library, 79 Main Street, Brewster, NY 10509

Art Materials:
- ruler

Drawing with Bobbi Egan: I will show how to make a grid to transfer lines to paper, draw the horse with basic shapes, create the outlines, erase the pencil lines, then color in the white areas using warm and cool color combinations. I think younger kids will like the project although I don’t expect them to draw past their level…they will get tips on using color and making shapes to make an animal that is universally used as a symbol in art sculpture, photographs, etc. I will be using an image I downloaded over the internet that is a copyrighted photo and talk about the difference between using an image for reference and copying exactly what has been done already.

DISCOVERING PEOPLE (2016)
In a series of art workshops children (age 4-12) will learn how to draw, paint and construct people in action. These experiences will stimulate children’s awareness of the various actions and functions of the human figure.
The program is devoted to fostering children’s innate natural artistic ability. In this project, children will be provided with art materials, tools and necessary guidance/instruction for each art session. Children won’t be instructed how to create adult-like art pieces. They will be strongly encouraged to implement their own ideas.
This project is made possible, in part, through the Putnam Arts Council’s Arts Link Program, with public funds provided through the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York State Legislature.

PUPPETS IN ART* (2015)
In a series of art workshops children (age 3-12) will learn how to make different kind of puppets. Puppetry requires encountering and experiencing many art forms, which can enhance the learning experience. It encourages interaction, fosters imagination and facilitates a dialogue. Children can believe and relate to puppets, which are both entertaining and captivating. They discover a way of expressing themselves without the heat being on them, as all eyes and ears are turned on the puppet.
